Scientific and publicational activity: РИНЦSCOPUSORCIDResearcherId.

He was born on November 21,1949 in Prokopyevsk, Kemerovskiy region, Russian Federation. In 1972 he graduated from the manufacturing department of Siberian metallurgical institute named after Sergo Ordzhonikodze in Novokuznetsk with the grade of a metallurgy engineer on “Physics of metals”.

Since 1972 till 1976 he worked as an engineer of the Special designing department at Novosibirsk electrovacuum enterprise where he dealt with the development of methods for analysis of materials.

In the period from 1976 to 2006 he rose from the research associate to the professor, the head of department “Electrical engineering, diagnostics and certification” of Siberian transport university (STU, previously NIIZhT). These were the years of development of the scientific school of V. V. Muravyev on diagnostics, material science and quality control of objects of railway transport, metallurgy, mechanical engineering and heat engineering. After agreement of the Department of railcar facilities in 1984 V. V. Muravyev organized the Industrial scientific research laboratory “Physical methods for metal quality control of stock parts and units”.

In 1993 V. V. Muravyev presented his DSc Thesis. He was the leader of development and large-scale implementation in OJSC “RZD” of computer-aided test-stands for acoustic emission diagnostics for the purpose of lifetime elongation of solebars and bolsters of freight-car trucks, devices for controlling the accuracy degree of bearing rings fitting, structurescopes for controlling the mechanical properties of metals. He educated 15 PhD graduates and Doctors of Sciences.

In 2006 Professor V. V. Muravyev was redeployed to Moscow State University of Railway Engineering (MIIT) where he was working till 2008 and continuing the development of computer-aided diagnostic test-stands for acoustic emission control of wheel sets and automatic couplers of railway carriages.

In 2007 V. V. Muravyev was given employment at Kalashnikov Izhevsk State Technical University for the position of professor, and since September 2010 he is the Head of Department “Devices and Methods of Measurement, Control and Diagnostics”.

In 2008 he organized and prepared for accreditation the Authorized agency for certification of the personnel on non-destructive testing of technical objects of railway transport, metal products and metal production of industrial enterprises. As a result, Kalashnikov Izhevsk State Technical University became one of five organizations in Russia that certify the experts for RZD and industrial enterprises of metallurgy and mechanical engineering industries. More than 3000 experts have been certified since 2008.

The main area of focus of the scientific school of Professor V. V. Muravyev in Kalashnikov ISTU is the research of electromagnetic acoustic techniques of flaw detection and assessment of residual mechanical stresses and structural analysis of metal constructions.

Results of scientific research development have been published in more than 500 printed works, including 10 monographs, 33 inventions and patents, and 3 study guides included into RSCI. 140 publications are included into Web of Science and Scopus databases.

Professor V. V. Muravyev is the head of the training program 12.00.00 “Instrumentation” for Bachelors, Master’s degree students, and post graduates. He is the member of three Thesis boards, he is also the member of the Scientific board of the RAS on computer-aided systems of non-destructive testing and technical diagnostics, Technical committee on non-destructive testing TK-371 of the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology (Gosstandart), Coordination council on non-destructive testing of OJSC “RZD”. In 2010 he was elected the Chair of Udmurt branch of the Russian society for non-destructive testing and technical diagnostics (RONKTD).
