Linguistic Transformations in Translating Legal Terminology from Russian into English and German

Abstract

The purpose of the work is to analyze the features and problems of legal translation. It should be noted that the translation of the legal text must meet the requirements of accuracy, conciseness, clarity, unambiguity of terminology, preservation of legal reliability and transparency of the translation, as well as relate to the target audience of the translated text. Thus, in the context of the expansion of international relations and information exchange, translation studies today is considered an independent scientific discipline with its theoretical basis, conceptual apparatus and terminology. When translating legal terminology from Russian into English and German, the use of different translation transformations is due to two main factors: differences in the structures of languages and differences in legal norms. It is noted that legal texts are characterized by a rigid structure, institutionality, performative character, intertextuality, as well as a number of other features that determine the specifics of the translation of legal texts. Thus, it should be concluded that in addition to the need to choose between different versions of the same term, its synonyms, the translator has to make lexical and semantic changes in the absence of direct analogues in the legal systems of the countries, or give a descriptive translation.
