On the Weapon School of the Legendary Designer M. T. Kalashnikov

Abstract

The engineering culture of Izhevsk gunsmiths was formed over many decades and reached the highest level. The intellectual power of the Izhevsk arms school was formed in stages and was based on the system of production values of Izhevsk gunsmiths, formed over the previous two centuries. At the same time, Izhevsk gunsmiths used the positive design experience and scientific knowledge of gunsmiths and specialists from other cities, developed it and increased the system of weapons values of the country.

The decision of the state to place an expanded production of Kalashnikov assault rifles in the city of Izhevsk gave a powerful creative impetus to the development of design and technological divisions of Izhevsk arms factories. Thanks to this state decision, the Izhevsk Mechanical Institute was created.

As a result, a full-fledged system for the creation of small arms of the country steadily functioned and purposefully developed in accordance with the state’s weapons strategy. Within the framework of this system, the training of highly professional weapon specialists was provided.
