ROMANTIC MOTIFS IN THE WORKS OF M. YU.LERMONTOV AND IN MODERN CINEMA

Abstract

The purpose of the study in this article is to compare and analyze romantic motifs in the literary text and cinematography. The material of the study was the literary text - the poem “The Demon” by Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov and the film “Wings of Desire” (Der Himmelüber Berlin) directed by Wim Wenders. The article examined the key concepts: romanticism as a “stylistic formation” and its main characteristics in the European and Russian contexts. Romanticism appears in art in general and reflects the philosophy, science, culture, politics, religion and attitude of the era after the French Revolution, and in this regard, the article discusses the concepts of the languor of the spirit and world sorrow, which are in the essence of romanticism and we find them in motives of the studied works. We paid attention to focalization, i.e. the problem of narrative space in the literary text and cinematography. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the approach to the study of two works of different arts (literature and cinematography), containing their original connections, intertwined with heritage and modern life, encoded in the context of the modern conceptualization of the world, i.e. the work compares what at first glance is incompatible. As a result, this study proved the similarity between the works of M. Yu. Lermontov's “Demon” and Wim Wenders' “Sky over Berlin” in romantic motifs, genre, plots, main characters, architecture, and landscape; in gothic, gloomy elements: in nature, in solitude, in colors, in sound and music.
