SOCIOLOGY IN THE TEACHING PROFESSION: STUDENTS ON THE ROLE OF UNIVERSITY DISCIPLINE

Abstract

This article is devoted to the problems of teaching sociology to students of non-core specialties (for example, technical, humanitarian, medical, etc.). The authors pay close attention to the peculiarities of teaching sociology in pedagogical universities and the problem of improving the sociological literacy of future teachers. The reasons for the inefficiency of the current system of teaching sociology in pedagogical universities are considered. The author's approach to the construction of a course in “Sociology” is presented, taking into account the professional specialization of future teachers, the possibilities of this discipline are demonstrated, firstly, as an effective means of forming not only general cultural, but also professional competencies of bachelors and masters in pedagogical fields of training; secondly, as a way to increase the professional self-awareness of graduates. This article is based on the results of a study of the final works of second-year undergraduate students of the Faculty of Philology and the Faculty of Foreign Languages of the Krasnoyarsk State Pedagogical University named after V. P. Astafiev, who completed the course “Sociology” (author's, innovative version), from 2019 to 2023 academic year. Comparative and narrative analysis, techniques and methods of interviews and essays were used. The result of the conducted research was the justification of the need to 1) build a training course in sociology, taking into account the specifics of the professional orientation of those students who are the target audience of this course; 2) develop and introduce additional academic disciplines, in addition to the general course of sociology, such as “Sociology of Education” (for bachelors) and “Sociology of higher education” (for masters), which will contribute to the formation of the sociological culture of future teachers and increase the level of their professional competence.
