PROCESSING AND ANALYSIS OF AMATEUR LEXICOGRAPHICAL MATERIALS FOR INCLUSION IN THE CORPUS OF RUSSIAN DIALECTS OF UDMURTIA

Abstract

The article describes the processing and analysis of materials from the “Dictionary of Dialect Words of Residents of the Village of Cheganda, Karakulinsky District, Udmurt Republic,” compiled by student Alena Kovalchuk, when included in the corpus of Russian dialects of Udmurtia. This work is an example of amateur lexicography, containing at the same time a significant number of dialect words with definitions and examples of use. As the analysis showed, the vocabulary included in the dictionary is not unique: many words are colloquial or have only phonetic differences from commonly used ones, others are noted in materials collected in the territory of Udmurtia, or are recorded in lexicographic sources as Permian, Vyatka, and also widely used in northern Russian dialects. However, A. Kovalchuk’s work also contains new data on the lexical composition of Russian dialects of Udmurtia, and clarifies information on the distribution of a number of dialect words. Due to the absence of records from this locality in the corpus of Russian dialects of Udmurtia, the dictionary and folklore materials recorded by A. Kovalchuk were included in the corpus as a text source. The specified texts were marked up in accordance with the Program for collecting information for the Lexical Atlas of Russian Folk Dialects. When entering the Russian dialects of Udmurtia into the corpus, the data of A. Kovalchuk's work were clarified using dialect lexicographic sources from the point of view of semantics and orthographic representation. When marking, the answers to 90 questions of the LARNG Program were noted. Also, the questionnaire on which the corpus of Russian dialects of Udmurtia is based has been supplemented with new questions-definitions for dialect words.
