Language representation of temporal space in the English-language inguocultural area

Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of linguistic mechanisms of the formation of the time continuum in the English-language prose text. It explores how linguistic means - from lexical units with spatial semantics to grammatical structures and stylistic devices - ensure the localization of events, characters, and plotlines in the subjective world of the text. Special attention is paid to the anthropocentric nature of the category of artistic space, its connection with time, and the verbalization of this category, which models real or fictional time, subordinated to the creative task rather than to objective chronology. An attempt is made to systematize the diversity of approaches to the interpretation of knowledge about temporal textual space. A review of the temporal paradigm models available in the linguistic literature is conducted, which form the linguistic picture of the world along with the categories of space. The analysis of temporal indications is carried out in the context of the content aspect, since it is the understanding of the semantic outcome of a literary work allows us to gain a deeper understanding of the author's worldview and cultural context, enhancing the aesthetic value of the text as an object of word creation. The article also explores the lexical aspect of temporal markers, identifying their morphosyntagmatic composition. It emphasizes the role of propection and retropection as artistic stylistic devices that expand and structure the temporal space of a text, disrupting its linearity. The article supports the hypothesis that these devices help the author manipulate the reader's perception, evoking empathy and analysis of event connections. The article substantiates the idea that strong text positions, being accentuated elements, also contribute to the formation of time space, allowing the author to manage the recipient's attention and differentiate the emotional background of their works.
