Teaching foreign students to use impersonal sentences in Russian language classes

Abstract

The article raises the problems associated with the study of impersonal sentences by foreign students in Russian as a Foreign Language classes. The State Standard confirms the necessity of using impersonal constructions at different levels of Russian as a Foreign Language proficiency. The article provides a brief overview of the works devoted to various aspects of the study of impersonal constructions in the methodology of teaching Russian as a Foreign Language. The main emphasis in the article is on the development of a system of exercises within the framework of the application of modular technology in teaching impersonal sentences in Russian as a foreign language classis at the Faculty of Philology. The proposed exercises relate to the third module (the first was a questionnaire that allowed to reveal the knowledge of foreign students about the impersonal sentence, the second - consideration of theoretical information about the types of one-member sentences, including impersonal ones) and include different types: imitative, substitution, transformational, reproductive, communicative. The proposed system of various exercises and tasks is aimed at developing not only solid theoretical knowledge, but also practical skills in using impersonal sentences. All types of exercises were used in the process of practicing each meaning of impersonal constructions: absence of a person or object in someone, somewhere or at all; necessity or possibility/impossibility of performing an action; desire to perform an action; state (physical or mental state of a person, surrounding space), etc. The article provides and analyzes students' answers demonstrating the complexity of impersonal constructions for foreign students, the need to practice them. Constructions denoting the state of the environment or a person, as well as the most common constructions with modal words, are especially effectively mastered by foreign students .
